Facebook broke: social media disaster

In case you didn't hear, Facebook was broken last night.

That's right, people... folks across the globe lost the power, the God-given RIGHT to status update, brag, post food photos, post inspirational quotes, diss (yes, I said 'diss') their enemies in a passive aggressive way publicly.

I myself had just returned from a fabulous Sydney party thrown in honour of celebrated author Jackie Collins and the photo I'd posted on Instagram would NOT upload on Facebook. For a moment, I thought the end was near. We were all doomed.

Of course, I joke, but as I retired to bed after refreshing the screen lots, and thinking my internet was down (another potential catastrophe!) I noticed it was a real 'thing'... ironically, it was trending on Facebook: George Takei's FB page and The Huffington Post both posted stories and links explaining the social media mini catastrophe.

How would we survive seeing THIS on our screens?!

Did you see the Facebook meltdown as it happened last night (US time, first thing in the morning?).

This is what Facebook HQ told Huff Post:

UPDATE: Facebook says that it resolved the technical issues that led to the partial outage, giving the following statement to HuffPost:
Earlier this morning, while performing some network maintenance, we experienced an issue that prevented some users from posting to Facebook for a brief period of time. We resolved the issue quickly, and we are now back to 100%. We’re sorry for any inconvenience we may have caused.

It reminded me of this, a viral video on our mobile phone addiction.

I, of course, know nothing of this... ahem.
