How to Beat a Cold!

It's that season again.. everyone is sniffling, sneezing and sounding pretty disgusting! A few girls at school were sick all at one time & I was freaking out. If you remember me during this time LAST YEAR, I was a mess. It was what, a good 10 weeks in a ROW I was sick with the two worst colds I've ever had in my life. I was so over it. Needless to say, I was trying to stay clear from the sickies at school, but it's a little hard when you're enclosed in the same room. With the door shut. And no windows open. How's that for all you claustrophobic people??

A few days later when I was getting ready for bed I thought my throat was just starting to feel a bit scratchy. PANIC. My colds always start with my throat feeling weird and I always start to feel it late at night.

Well, long story short, I beat my cold! Here are a few things YOU can do to avoid getting sick, or beat it when you start to feel like crap.

#1. Get Lots of Sleep
I think we all know that our bodies heal the most while we are sleeping. I think we tend to live crazy hectic lives where sleep doesn't seem as important to us. How many of us are running on 4-5 hours of sleep a night? I know I am.. BAD! Try harder to fit a good night's sleep into your schedule! Sheesh.. take a melatonin if you have to, I swear by that stuff!

#2. Stay Hydrated
Be sure to drink lots of water! Did you know you should be drinking HALF of your whole body weight in OUNCES of water a day in order to stay hydrated? That's a lot of water and if you aren't doing that now and suddenly start, your going to have to pee a ton. BUT. You will be flushing out toxins & your body will get used to the amount of water. (This is also a plus for your skin!)

#3.  Essential Oil/Milk Bath
Run a hot bath and add 2-4 drops (each) of Lavender, Rosemary & Eucalyptus to 1 cup of milk, then soak. I did this the LAST time I got sick, and you guys.. I swear by it. I felt so much better! Lavender has cytophylactic properties that promote rapid healing and sleep, Rosemary can help you cope with stressful conditions, and Eucalyptus combats the effects of colds and the flu being applied to sore muscles and joints. Amaze.

#4. Take your Daily Vitamins
If you aren't already taking a Daily Vitamin, you should be!! Make sure you stay on top of poppin' your vita-gummies daily. You can also up your Vitamin C intake! You can also up your Zinc for the time being too. Zinc is the active ingredient in Zicam and within a day of your first symptoms can reduce both their severity and duration!
(Ladies: Zinc also helps with aging skin!)

#5. Stay away from Dairy
I always thought if I was sick I deserved some ice cream. Little did I know I was actually making things worse by having dairy! Dairy products increase the production of mucous which will make your symptoms worse! (and ew!) Which brings me to....

#6. Clear hot fluids are best
I tend to lean towards chicken noodle soup, hot chicken broth, & lots of herbal tea! There are so many herbal teas that are awesome to drink when you're sick! Plus when I start to feel like I'm coming down with a cold, I'm always freezing! Drinking these hot liquids help me to warm up.

#7. Colloidal Silver
You can buy this at your local Hipster store. So.. Whole foods.
You just spray it in your mouth, hold it under your tongue for 30 seconds and swallow. That part's pretty sick considering it's a tasteless, now-mouth-temperature liquid. gag. BUT, you'll start to feel better because it's a great immune system booster.
I know there are people out there that are anti-colloidal silver, but I like it. I went through an entire bottle last time I was sick. And no, I didn't turn blue.
If you don't know what I'm talking about, you can google it.

I guess I should include some stupid disclaimer stating that I'm not a doctor or physician. These steps are obviously just things that can help you to kick your cold faster! I think you get the point..

I hope this helps, and above all.. drink your H20!
