A friend just posted this on Facebook: Laura Pausini and Kylie Minogue, and their new collaboration 'Limpido'. Ughhh, SO fantastic. Watch:

Isn't it fabulous pairing? The enduring Italian singer and the Aussie pop icon.

Laura Pausini - for me - will always be 1993, San Remo, my trip to Italy... and her first single 'Baci Che Si Rubano':

Gelatissimo and International Fleet Review: ‘When Harry Met Sydney’

To commemorate the contribution of His Royal Highness Prince Henry of Wales to the Australian Navy’s momentous International Fleet Review celebrations, Gelatissimo has created a delicious new flavour based on Prince Harry’s favorite taste combination of strawberry and cream, as referenced on Foxtel’s Lifestyle Channel (very clever research!)

The Prince and Governor-General Quentin Bryce will be receiving a welcome pack of gelato featuring the newly created flavour at Government House during his stay in Sydney.

The yummy new flavour will be available for the public to buy across the week long celebrations from the 4th to 11th October at Gelatissimo’s Circular Quay gelateria.

Gelatissimo’s fantastic artisan gelato maker, Anna Temellini, who relocated from Italy to bring authentic artisan gelato to our shores, has created Prince Harry’s flavour. Playfully named ‘When Harry Met Sydney’ it is a luscious combination of rich and creamy 'fiordilatte' topped with dark red velvet cupcake pieces and strawberry ripple. Here is the creation:

Gelatissimo is proud to be a part of this wonderful event and for its participation it will supply its signature Bambino cones too many of the cruise boats during the event.

Joint CEO’s of Gelatissimo, Domenico and Marco Lopresti say, “The Royal Family has always enjoyed their visits to Australia because they connect with our sense of fun, so we thought it was fitting to thank Prince Harry for his wonderful contribution to the International Fleet Review with a delicious tribute.”

And, in news just in, Gelatissimo has been told that Admiralty House has accepted the specially-made gelato - with the head chef familiar with the quality brand - and so the possibility is great for the dessert to be served tonight to the Governor General and possibly Prince Harry.

It caps off a stellar week for the renowned brand (I am obsesed with all their flavours). They just reopened the Burwood store last Saturday, with free ice cream for all on the day!

Melissa Gorga Book: 'Bethenny' Interview - VIDEO

In the past 24 hours much has been said about the new book by Melissa Gorga.

Melissa is one of the 'Real Housewives of New Jersey', and has just penned a book called:

'Love Italian Style: The Secrets of My Hot and Happy Marriage.'

This article in particular slammed the couple's marriage, with the piece entiled: 'Real Housewife' Melissa Gorga's New Book Advocates Marital Rape.

The article deconstructs various paragraphs in Melissa's book, like this one:
Men, I know you think your woman isn't the type who wants to be taken. But trust me, she is. Every girl wants to get her hair pulled once in a while. If your wife says "no," turn her around, and rip her clothes off. She wants to be dominated.
Women don't realize how easy men are. Just give us what we want.
That is rape and it is insane that it got past the publisher. (says the Jezebel article).
Melissa and Joe just appeared on the new 'Bethenny' show and also dropped a few controversial clangers.

When Bethenny asked Joe if Melissa ever turns him down for sex, Joe replied: "She fights it. She fights it, but I always win," he said.

He then continued to describe a time when Melissa came home tired, but he told her "Daddy needs his sleeping pill."

Watch that clip here.

And this:

Today, Melissa responded to critics by saying: "I'm so disgusted that a reporter has taken things completely out of context simply for shock value. #SAD."

What do you think of this all?

Miranda Kerr as 'Cicciolina': V Magazine September 2013

Remember Cicciolina?

If you were growing up in the 1980s, you'll recall this interesting woman.

Her real name is IIona Staller, and she was born in Hungary in 1951, but married and settled in Italy. A porn star, making most of her porn films in her native country, she was elected to the Italian Government in 1987 as 'Cicciolina', but still made porn films while she was an MP.

Soon, she became renowned for making her political speeches while exposing one breast. I vividly recall watching the news and whenever she was mentioned, out came the footage with her breast.

Well... Miranda Kerr has now appeared in the September issue of V Magazine as Cicciolina.

There resemblance is kinda striking.

Here are the photos. The edition is on sale now.

Thoughts?

Rick Daniele Dies Age 65

In devastating news just in, renowned Italian singer Rick Daniele has died.

He was only 65.

(Updated: funeral details below)

The Italo-Australian entertainer was hugely popular among the Italian community.

Mention his name (Daniele was his stage surname, his real surname was Zumbo) in this community and someone will tell you Rick (known as Ricky in his early days of performing) sang at their wedding. Maybe even their engagement. Possibly even their child's christening.

He was a firm fixture at the traditional Italian festa (where either a patron saint or an Italian cultural calendar event was celebrated).

Sadly, he died today doing what he loves best... performing at the annual Ferragosto Italian Festa at Five Dock. Rick had a heart attack while performing on stage.

In what must be an absolutely devastating time for his family - wife Connie, and children Gino and Romina - he will be remembered by so, so many for all the wonderful memories at our huge milestone events: as Italian-Aussie kids knew we shared the same, warmly familiar common bond if we experienced a wedding at Sydney reception lounge Conca D'oro, with Ricky Daniele as the wedding singer.

He will be very sadly missed by so many.

RIP Rick. So sad.

The funeral for Rick Daniele has been confirmed: it will be held on Saturday August 17 at 9.30am, at Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, Mt Pritchard.

Gelatissimo: 'Sweets of Italy' Winter Range + Reader Giveaway

Winter is traditionally not the time of year you'd think of indulging in gelato, but true aficionados of the stuff don't care... they indulge all year 'round.

This can be said of the people at Gelatissimo, who live and breathe it.

And so, Gelatissimo introduce: Sweets of Italy, their brand-new range of traditional Italian, mouth-watering winter flavours, available in all Australian Gelatissimo gelaterie from July 22 to September 8.

Sweets of Italy, the grand finale to Gelatissimo’s year-long 'Flavours of Italy'campaign, is such an Italiano experience. The range consists of eight flavours, based on the traditional sweets and desserts of popular Italian regions. Each flavour is rich and indulgent – typical of what Italians in Italy expect of desserts in winter.

Hot on the heels of Gelatissimo’s recent success at the 2013 Dairy Industry Association of Australia Awards of Excellence (brilliant!), where they walked away with no less than nine awards for their quality gelato including the top gong for frozen confectionery, the Sweets of Italy range is made with the highest quality ingredients, prepared fresh in-store daily.

I have trialed all the flavours and... yum!

Early fave - before a single taste - was...

Cannoli Siciliani: a sweet ricotta base with crispy pieces of cannoli shells, pistachio nuts and chocolate drops all the way through.

Because... this:

True, right?

No self-respecting Italophile would EVER leave the cannoli...

And you know what, after immersing myself in this flavour, this is the BOMB.

The other seven indulgent flavours are:

Tiramisu Toscano: a creamy mascarpone base, layered with a coffee dipped sponge and a touch of Marsala wine, dusted with cocoa powder.
Cassata Siciliana: rich and colourful, this flavour is enriched with pieces of candied fruit depicting cherries and slices of citrus fruit characteristic of Sicily.
Gianduiotto Piemontese: a deliciously smooth choc-hazelnut base, which combines the richness of chocolate with the finest taste of Italian hazelnuts.
Zabaione Lombardo: a delicious smooth and creamy flavour of whipped light custard with a touch of Marsala, topped with dark chocolate flakes.
Amaretti di Saronno: a ‘bitter’ almond base with crunchy bites of amaretti biscuits in every mouthful.
Torroncino Veneto: a milk chocolate base flavoured with honey and roasted nuts, and enriched with chocolate coated crunchy torrone (nougat) bites.
Zuppa Inglese Romangnola: an aromatic toffee vanilla custard base layered with sponge soaked in Alchermes liquor, topped with chocolate chunks.
Says joint-CEO of Gelatissimo Domenico Lopresti: “Gelato is a year-round indulgence in Italy. Rather than go for lighter sorbets such as Lemon and Mango, Italians expect rich, warm, dairy-based flavours during the cold months, such as those we have chosen. Our Australian customers can be assured that, with this range, we are bringing them a true, Italian Winter gelato experience, presented in these rich, alluring flavours of Italy.”

And, as promised, Josie's Juice has vouchers to win!
